Craving some wholesome Western style food? Look no further than Ted’s Montana Grill. Even though the ECC’s are located on the East Coast, this authentic Western grub hub transported us across the country! When Ted Turner opened up Ted’s Montana Grill, he wanted to showcase his love for his home state, Montana, and one of the state’s iconic meats: Bison. We couldn’t wait to get our hands on one of his famous Bison Burgers!
When we first walked in, we were surprised to see how fancy and welcoming the dining room was. We were secretly hoping to be greeted by staff in cowboy boots, cowboy hats and a lot of country music, however, there was a giant Buffalo head on the wall (which we forgot to inquire about its authenticity), so we knew instantly what the restaurant was all about. We were pleased to notice how clean and bright the dining room was – beautifully designed and comfortable- which is hard to find in most crowded NYC hotspots.
Now to the good stuff – we’re sure you’re wondering about the delicious food! After a recommendation from the very accommodating Chef, we ordered the Avalon Burger with Bison meat. The Avalon Burger is made with Gruyere, Maytag Blue Cheese, bacon, caramelized onions, roasted garlic aioli and baby arugula. This was first time we had ever had Bison meat, and although the burger was satisfying, we personally prefer beef, but don’t let this stop you from being adventurous!
The bison was cooked perfectly but it’s more lean than beef so we didn’t feel as guilty eating it. We would describe Bison as a mixture between turkey and beef. The burger came with a side of french fries which were perfectly seasoned- and we’re not ashamed to say that plate was licked clean. Our other foodie friend who tagged along ordered the Kale Salad and Butternut Soup.
This brings us to our favorite part of the meal- the dessert! The chef surprised us with an Apple Pecan Crisp. We usually are not the biggest fan of baked apples, but we couldn’t stop eating it. The warm apples were the perfect amount of tartness, and the added cinnamon was the perfect compliment to the thick crumby pecan crust. It was so delicious, we are still drooling about it while writing this blog post! Be warned- it is a generous sized dessert so come hungry or make sure you have someone to share it with.
One more aspect about Ted’s that we want to highlight was the service. This was one of the most friendliest staff that we have ever encountered in the restaurant industry. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the warmest smiles. Our server was extremely organized and attentive, and the lead chef checked-in on us twice to answer any questions we had about the food. We felt like we were part of the family.
In conclusion, if you want the experience of being transported to the West Coast for authentic Western cuisine, Ted’s is your place. Located near Rockefeller Center, Ted’s Montana Grill is a great place to stop by while you’re hitting the tourist hot spots such as Times Square or Radio City Music Hall. When you go, make sure to tell them that the East Coast Contessas sent you!
