Olivia Macaron

Olivia Macaron

At 3222 M Street NW in Northwest Washington, D.C. sits a unique sweet spot that is cherished by D.C. locals. Surrounded by the upscale shops and pristine cobblestone streets of Georgetown, this popular spot is known throughout the nation’s capitol (and even among certain U.S. Presidents) as none other than Olivia Macaron.

Olivia Macaron was founded by former financial guru Ana Claudia and prestigious macaron artist Michel.

After spending 10 years crafting beautiful food art at one of France’s most well-known macaron shops, Michel hopped back across the ocean with this family to share his talent and passion with the U.S.

Around the same time, Ana Claudia had decided to take a break from the financial world to focus on taking care of her new born daughter, named none other than Olivia.

Michel and Ana Claudia met soon after, and came to the realization that, together, their experiences in the fine food and finance industry would create a force to be reckoned with. Hence, Olivia Macaron was born for D.C. residents (and all the world) to enjoy.

Since then, Olivia has opened up two locations: the flagship Georgetown location, and the newly established kiosk at Tyson’s Corner Mall in Vienna, Virginia. Both shops simultaneously offer 16 unique flavors any given day, and allow patrons to place custom orders that contain previous seasonal flavors not available on site.

With all of the wonderful options Olivia offers, we had the absolute pleasure of sampling some of them!

The flavors pictured in the 14 pack box below are Champagne, Fruity Pebbles, Lady Grey, Raspberry, Rose, Chocolate, Pistachio, Almond, Salted Caramel, Blood Orange, Honey Lavender, Vanilla, Cassis, and Peach.FullSizeRender106

While all of the flavors are sinfully scrumptious, Olivia claims that the most popular flavors are the pistachio, chocolate, blood orange, and the fruity pebbles (pictured below!). This particular flavor was created after significant customer demand – Olivia caters to their fellow macaron lovers like that.

Olivia also gives customers the option of placing specialized orders of their past seasonal flavors which include Black Sesame (we hear this is delicious!), Passion Fruit, PB&J, and Nutella, among others. Olivia can also create ombre and rainbow macaron boxes (talk about Instagram-worthy!)

In addition to the flavors listed above, the other flavors that are currently available for on-site purchase at Olivia include Coffee and Red Velvet. Olivia offers specialized Valentines-themed macarons that are meticulously stamped with an array of feel good quotes illustrations. Customers can purchase their loved ones a box of up to 40 of these unique treats (for the seriously obsessed) or a container of two (for a small yet sweet gesture the apple of their eye is sure to adore).

Many macaron fans may not realize the meticulous effort and attention to detail that goes into creating each individual gem. These delicate and beautiful puffs of heaven are tricky to construct, and take enormous mounts of pride and patience to perfect – macarons take more than a day to prepare! Depending on the flavor, the biscuits must rest with the filling inside for up to 24 hours in order for it to reach that perfect pillowy inside yet crisp-on-the-outside consistency. (Talk about sinful but so worth it!)

In addition to serving customers handcrafted macarons daily, Olivia also serves the communities of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area by catering numerous charity events and high-level government galas. Their macarons have flown on both Air Force One and Air Force Two, and have graced the halls of the U.S. State Department to serve the visiting Chinese Delegation. Olivia has also worked with other organizations such as the March of Dimes, the Georgetown Ministry, and Rent the Runway.

What colorful foods! Interestingly enough, the thought going through my head while reading this post was “Spongebob” because he had an episode of colorful patties lol. Great and interesting read!

Oh my gosh–I LOVE macarons, but I absolutely cannot cook them, and there’s nowhere nearby to purchase them. I think I need to make a trip to DC just to get these! 😀
